Siding, soffit, gravel and paint
Siding Installation and Exterior Repair in Hot Springs, AR
Siding installation covers the panels on the wall and the wood behind them. New panels run true to the course above them and the paint goes right to the edge of every board.

What an exterior job covers
An exterior job starts with the siding and the sheathing behind it. Siding installation also covers the exterior trim and the soffit under the roofline. The fascia along the roof edge is part of the work, and paint goes over all of it. Gravel yards and drainage runs beside the house belong to the same job. One call handles your entire project from start to finish.
Panels that run true to the course above them look straight from the curb. The trim keeps a straight line across a long span. Paint covers to the edge of the board, corners included.

The first days on site
Problems found early
Our trained crew knows the common problems behind an older wall. We find them in the first days of the job, while the wall is still open. A soft spot that turns up at that stage still fits inside the price.
Water that gets behind siding rots the sheathing under it. Sound sheathing takes the new panels and the job keeps moving, and soft sheathing adds new wood before anything goes back on the wall. Rot that runs deeper than the sheathing reaches the framing, which is a different job with a different number on it.
The order of the work is the same on every wall. Siding comes off first. The soft wood comes out next, and house wrap goes over the bare framing. New panels and exterior trim follow, then the soffit and the fascia, and paint goes on last.

The four wall parts
Four parts on the wall
The wall comes apart into four parts.
The siding
Siding replacement in vertical groove panels that fasten to sound sheathing and run true to the course above. A damaged section takes new panels beside the siding already on the house.
The wood behind it
The new panels fasten to the sheathing behind them. The soft sections come out before any panel goes up, and house wrap staples over the bare framing to shed the water that gets past a board.
Soffit and fascia
Soffit closes the run under the roofline and fascia caps the roof edge. Both take new boards where the old ones went soft, and both carry the same paint as the wall.
Paint and stain
Exterior paint seals the new panels and the trim around them. Exterior stain and sealer go on cedar posts and gable boards, where the grain is the point.
The ladders that reach the fascia also reach a deck build on the same side of the house, and one estimate can cover both. An exterior door is part of the wall we re-side, so a new door and its jamb belong on the same visit.
Finished exterior work
Open wall to painted panels
One wall came open to two bays of foil-faced sheathing with rot along the bottom plate. It closed with new vertical groove panels painted cream. A stone entry portico went from raw cedar posts and gray timber trusses to warm brown stain with the truss braces painted black. A porch railing and its skirting went from bare weathered boards to tan paint along the full run.

The estimate
What moves the number
The square feet of wall taking new siding sets the material count. How far the rot runs behind it sets how much of the wall opens up. The siding material you pick moves the number again. How high the wall is sets whether we work off ladders or off scaffolding. Exterior paint and trim can ride along on the same job, and the soffit and the fascia can ride with them.
We measure all five at the wall on the estimate visit. The written quote follows that visit, and the price stays the same unless you change the scope. Ask for an estimate and we set a time to come look at the job. The estimate is free and asking costs you nothing.

Washed river gravel
Gravel yards and drainage
Bare dirt and leaf litter beside the house come back as graded washed river gravel. The rock goes out to the fence line, and the yard drains.
Our crew is already at the house for the siding, the exterior trim, the soffit and the fascia. The ground against the house is part of the same exterior job, and one estimate covers the wall and the ground around it.

BeforeAfterMoving roof water away
A gravel drainage run laid the length of the house takes the water off the roof. The graded rock moves that water away from the foundation, and the ground stays dry. A compacted gravel base under a paver patio is a separate job.

Four questions we get
Can you match new siding to the rest of my house?
Matching starts with the shape of the boards already on the wall. The new panels follow the same course and show the same width. Paint closes whatever difference is left. On one job the new panels went in beside the existing gray siding and came back painted cream.
Do you re-side one wall or the whole house?
Both. A single damaged section can take new panels while the siding on the rest of the house stays where it is. A whole side of the house comes off when the damage runs past one section. The written estimate says which walls it covers before a panel moves.
Do you stain and seal cedar posts and porch railing too?
Yes. Cedar posts and gable boards take stain and sealer, and you can still see the grain through the finish. Porch railing and skirting take paint where the boards have weathered gray. One portico went warm brown with the truss braces painted black, and one porch railing went tan along its full run.
Who runs the job once I sign?
Reese Schwarz quotes the wall himself and he sets the work dates with you. He is also the one who answers the phone about the job while the ladders are up.
Where we work
We close the wall fast
Once siding comes off, the sheathing is open to the weather, so the wall gets closed the same week it opens. A wall in the Village, or in one of the Garland County towns around it, is a short drive from us. A short drive means the crew starts the day at the wall.
One call sets the visit and we work the time around your week.
